Is
the laser beam a health risk because it's pulsating?
Certainly not! We've heard rumors claiming that the pulsating of
the beam is dangerous. This is totally erroneous! They're apparently
thinking of a pulsed laser, which is a different kind of laser
altogether.
Do
I need to send the firearm to the factory for installation?
No. In fact, we much prefer the customer to install the laser
sight him/herself (as opposed to having the dealer do it ). The
LaserMax® is designed for easy end-user installation.
Does
the LaserMax® require gunsmithing?
No, if you can field strip the gun for cleaning, you can install
the LaserMax.
How
easy is it to install the LaserMax®?
Very easy! All you need to do is replace the guide rod and recoil
spring and the take down latch and spring. That's it! Please read
the instruction manual for complete assembly instructions.
Do
I need a special holster for the LaserMax®?
Absolutely not! The LaserMax is totally internal. This means
that unlike all the other laser gunsights (no matter how
"minimal profile" they claim to be), only the LaserMax
fits in all standard holsters. Do you really want to buy new
leather, or "stretch" your favorite leather to accommodate
someone else's protruding sight?
How
do I activate the LaserMax®?
Pressing a manual switch located on the custom take-down lever or
slide stop activates the LaserMax®. It can be activated from
either side of the gun. The LaserMax® will stay on until you
turn it off by pressing the switch.
• No squeezing necessary.
• The way that you use your gun in unchanged, but your aiming is
faster and more accurate.
Why
does the laser blink?
The LaserMax is superior to other laser sights in part because it
has a blinking or "pulsating" beam. The pulsating beam
is approximately three times more visible to the human eye than
a continuous-on beam of the same nominal power. This means that in
high-stress situations, your eye locates the beam more quickly and
target acquisition is faster in the presence of other distractions.
It does cost us more to build the electronics to generate the
pulsating beam, but we do it because it makes the LaserMax sight so
much more useful in practice.
What
is a daylight laser?
The effective range of the LaserMax® 635nm, in bright sunlight, is
approximately 10-12 feet. Cloud cover will allow greater visibility.
All laser sights are most effective from dusk to dawn outside or
anytime inside. We encourage customers to rely on traditional
sighting methods for daytime target acquisition.
What
kind of battery does the LaserMax® need?
• All LaserMax laser sights use four watch-type silver oxide
button batteries.
How
often do I need to replace the batteries?
Results will vary based on individual use. The batteries typically
last for 2.5 hours of continuous use, but most customers replace
them about once a year.
Is
the alignment on the LaserMax® adjustable?
It depends on the model. Most models are permanently aligned to ±
2" at 20 yards. (Mini-Glocks LMS-1161 are aligned to ± 3"
at 20 yards.) This means you can simply drop it in and go!"
The
1911 gunsight (LMS-1911B,M,S) is factory aligned, but it is also
user-adjustable. There are many makes of the 1911 Government model
handgun (Colt, Kimber, Springfield, Wilson, et al.) with possible
variations in manufacturing tolerances. We included the
user-adjustability in the event that 1911 users want to fine-tune
their alignment.
Does
the LaserMax® stand up to the abuse of recoil over an extended
period of time?
Yes. The LaserMax® has been proven to withstand the harshest of
conditions including drop tests, full auto fire, and tens of
thousands of rounds.
What
firearms will the LaserMax® fit?
The LaserMax® is currently available for many Glock, Colt, Kimber,
Springfield, Beretta, SigArms and Taurus pistols. Please note the
LaserMax® is very firearm specific and will not interchange with
firearms not specified for its use.
Is
it true that the excessive heat from rapid fire will cause the
LaserMax® to malfunction?
No, not at all. Tests conducted with a full-auto, Glock model
18, proved that even excessive rapid gunfire will not cause our
laser to fail.
Does
the LaserMax® permanently modify the pistol?
No, the pistol can be returned to its original factory condition
at anytime.
Will
the LaserMax® void the warranty on the firearm?
No. Because no permanent modifications are made to the firearm
with the LaserMax® laser, the pistol can always be returned to
factory-original condition for firearm warranty repair.
Do
cold temperatures affect the LaserMax®?
Extreme temperatures do not adversely affect the LaserMax®.
However, batteries needed to operate the laser sight have minimum
and maximum temperature ranges. The standard batteries supplied in
your kit are rated at +14° F to +120° F. Temperatures outside of
these ranges will cause the laser to dim during exposure.
What
does the FDA danger label mean?
All LaserMax® laser sights are Class IIIa laser devices. This class
rating is based on both wavelength and output power. For this
commercial-use class rating, the wavelength must be between 400nm
and 700nm, and the output power less than 5mW. Due to this
regulation, the output power for all LaserMax® lasers has been
adjusted to accommodate this FDA class rating.
Can
the LaserMax® cause permanent eye damage?
Supermarket scanners are typically classified as "eyesafe"
and are Class II lasers, just one class below our rating. Although
our lasers are not considered eyesafe, it would be difficult to
cause permanent eye damage with a Class IIIa laser. If the LaserMax®
were to cross your vision path, your blink reflex would protect you
before any permanent damage could occur. The effect could be
compared to a flash bulb going off in front of your eyes. Do not
point it into your or anyone else's eyes and avoid reflections.
Must
the danger label be affixed to the pistol?
The laser industry is regulated by the FDA. As a manufacturer, we
are required to include a warning label in every kit we ship. It is
the individual owner's responsibility to affix the label.
What
is the LaserMax warranty?
LaserMax has a three year warranty that covers everything including
alignment and focus ( the 1911 is user adjustable so alignment is
not covered on those models ). Batteries, spring and replaceable
plastic parts ( battery cap, etc. ) are covered for 90 days.
